Hippity-hopping down the competition trail, these youngsters had a good time at the children’s field events on the Garrison on Friday. They could also participate in egg-totes and wheelbarrow races. Metropolitan Opera stars John Gil more and Diane Kesling will be fea tured in a concert of favorite arias and songs from Broadway at 8 p.m. Saturday, July 11. Gilmore, a tenor, is currently in his tenth season at the Met and has performed with most of the major symphonies in the United States and also in Europe. A mezzo-soprano, Kesling was a 1981 national finalist in the Metropolitan Opera Competi tion and signed a contract to per form with the company. She has been seen in many "Live From the Met" telecasts and with several symphonies around the country. "Say Amen" Gospel Jubilee is scheduled for 8 p.m. Saturday, July 18. The program will feature per formances by four area gospel groups including Joyful Noise. The Broadway musical "Oliver!" will be performed at 8 p.m. Thurs day, July 23, through Sunday, July 23. Frank Trimble, assistant profes sor of communications studies at the University of North Carolina at Wil mington, will direct the musical. Set in rural Georgia, it is the musical version of "The Greatest Story Ever Told" and is based on the book "The Cot ton Patch Version of Matthew and John".
